Tertuliarium
In ancient Rome, before the Colosseum was built, audiences gathered in the Tertuliarium to watch plays and listen to readings. The Tertuliarium was a three-story building with a large open courtyard in the center. The first story was for the audience, the second story was for the actors, and the third story was for the musicians. The Tertuliarium was destroyed in the fire of 80 AD, but was later rebuilt. It was again destroyed by an earthquake in 847 AD, and was never rebuilt.
